5 Lessons From Office Sign Company’s Intern
I don’t want to seem biased, but our staff consists of rock stars. From our Customer Success Managers to our Sublimation crew, everyone here does his/her job exceptionally well. In today’s blog, however, we’d like to focus on a member of our staff whose importance can sometimes be overlooked – our Graphic Design Intern, Mac!
We can all agree that interns may not always have the best job duties. When we think “intern,” we often associate that with coffee-runners or file-sorters. Mac, on the other hand, is quite an exception to this stereotype. He tackles every project asked of him (big or small) with excitement and a willingness to learn – that alone makes you want to carry out the same energy in your job.
Though this internship is a place for Mac to learn, we can honestly say we’ve taken a few lessons away from him. Perhaps you can relate with your own office intern!

Though this internship is a place for Mac to learn, we can honestly say we’ve taken a few lessons away from him. Perhaps you can relate with your own office intern!
Here are 5 important lessons we’ve taken away from Office Sign Company’s Graphic Design Intern:
1.) Attain a “Challenge Accepted” Mentality
At the start of each quarter, the Marketing Department establishes the goals they’d like to accomplish in that three-month span. Mac’s goals don’t shy away from a challenge! He, like most interns, put in half the amount of hours we do in an average work week. That doesn’t stop him from tackling the tasks put in from of him!
2.) Look for Opportunity
A successful individual is one who sees an opportunity and satisfies it. Mac does just that. From leaving kind notes to coworkers, to bringing in ice cream treats and pizza for the staff, to helping in any department he can – we lucked out with him. He once put together a laser guideline to help us efficiently press large t-shirt orders in half the time! He was never asked to do these things – he just saw an opportunity.
3.) Accept Constructive Criticism
Graphic Design is a tough field. You have to portray your creativity in a way that stays true to your company’s brand, while still creating an eye-catching graphic. It can be tough to accept constructive criticism with anything along the lines of creativity. But, Mac does so with a, “That’s a great idea!”response.
4.) Offer Your Ideas
Another lesson we’ve learned from Mac is to continue to offer your ideas! The worst they can say is, “no.” And if they do, the sooner you can start working on your next idea. If they say “yes,” however, your designs just might be worn all around town. 🙂

5.) Have Fun!
Every task you take on is what you make of it – from running client deliveries all around Fargo-Moorhead, to designing ads in magazines. Whether it is tedious or stressful, “We have fun.” – Mac.
In short, we’ve learned how impactful a positive, light-hearted attitude can be – especially in the work place! Mac continually impresses us with his ideas, designs, and uplifting demeanor. We’re fortunate to work with such an intern, and we hope you take as much away from these lessons as we do daily!
