Position at OSC: Art Department Manager & Marketing Graphic Designer
Tell us a little bit more about what this entails? I wear two hats here at OSC. As the manager of the Art Department I bridge a lot of gaps. My main responsibility is to help the team meet our goals. I also work closely with a lot of local customers to create their digital sign proofs. I feel I strive to help my team be the best they can be. This requires me to communicate effectively to all other departments in the company as each and every order goes through us before moving on to the production phase. As the Marketing Graphic Designer I help create all the visual elements for the marketing department as well as photograph OSC events, products, and advertisement photos. This is the part of my job where I get to be creative and I love that.
Where did you go to college? Minnesota State University Moorhead. I graduated with a Bachelor of Art with an emphasis of Graphic Design. I’m an art nerd at heart.
Where did you start your career? When I was a senior in College I was a Graphic Design Intern in the Marketing Department at TMI Hospitality. I feel this is where my career started because I grew from a scared little college kid to a more confident designer. This is completely attributed to my fantastic supervisor, Ann Schneider. (Shout out!) After I graduated I became the sole Graphic Designer at Obermiller Nelson Engineering. Another place that helped with my growth tremendously thanks to Kelly Humble. (Shout out #2!) I then started as a Production Artist here at OSC.
How long have you been with OSC? Two and a half years ago!
Favorite OSC tradition, event or work perk? OSClympics, Corporate Cup, the Annual Christmas Party, walking in the Holiday Lights Parade and the Annual Redhawks Game. (there’s SO many work perks)
When I’m not at OSC you can find me….At home with my family. I have two littles at home, a fantastic husband,❤ and a furry child (puppy).
Favorite place to travel to? My extended family is from the east coast, so I love going there to visit them. I also really enjoying traveling to Wisconsin to visit my in-laws. Wisconsin in the fall is probably one of my favorite things. I never want to leave.
Favorite restaurant in town? This is a tough one. I would have to say Taco Brothers food truck, Granite City or Olive Garden.
Favorite sports team? This is another tough one. I’m super into Football. I actually won OSC’s Fantasy League last year (whoop whoop). My husband is from Wisconsin, so I have to say I’m a Green Bay Packer fan, but since my family is all from southern New Jersey, I also consider myself an Philadelphia Eagles fan. One thing is for sure, I’m definitely NOT a Vikings fan.
What advice would you give to younger people trying to get into your profession? The Graphic design industry is really saturated so don’t be afraid to be different. Have confidence in your abilities. You are better then you think you are. Always strive to grow and listen to criticism without taking offense. Surround yourself with people you respect and look up to in the industry. Take advice from non designers, sometimes they see things from a different perspective and can help you be a better designer. Lastly, have fun. We’re creatives. Proudly be that goofy, loud, font nerd that you are. ❤
