Name: Jennifer Klath
Position at OSC: Production Artist
Tell us a little bit more about what this entails? I take the layout requirements and suggestions from our customers and make them come to life on the screen – it’s one step away from giving them the real thing but it allows them to ensure they’re getting what they want. It requires communicating with an amazing variety of people who order from us (and sometimes deciphering very unique requests, might I add).
Where did you go to college? I graduated from Concordia College – Moorhead in 2013 with a BA in Graphic Design, as well as Writing.
Where did you start your career? I started my career in Print Media at the City of Moorhead, a year-long internship. From there I took a Graphic Design/Writing position at Creative Kitchen in the West Acres Mall.
How long have you been with OSC? Coming up on one year!
Favorite thing about your job at OSC? I get to know my co-workers not only by working closely with everyone, but also outside of work during social events, community volunteering, and company parties. I might only work part-time, but I feel a part of the gang!
Favorite OSC tradition, event or work perk? The summer events, especially the baseball games and OSC Olympics are a great time. Lately our Culture Committee has been busy planning company-wide gatherings like breakfast and minute-to-win-it games that really take this job up a notch.
Favorite thing about Fargo / Moorhead? The eats! Seriously great food scene, and the friendly and sociable people of the Red River Area make a night out to eat that much better.
When I’m not at OSC you can find me….Building my tiny house with my husband, writing, playing with neighborhood dogs, and attending game nights with friends.
Favorite place to travel to? Been taking the trip from the Midwest to California–specifically the Bay Area–to visit family since I was really young, and that may be why I feel my blood is half West Coast (it’s cold here!).
Favorite restaurant in town? Maybe Vinyl Taco. Can I say Sandie’s Donuts? I’ll even admit I love Sweeto Burrito.
Favorite sports team? I’ve always answered this question with “the Olympics” and though it’s not a direct answer, I’m going with it.
What advice would you give to younger people trying to get into your profession? Study the day-to-day tasks and responsibilities of the many different creative positions out there, and give yourself the opportunity to try a couple out of your comfort zone. Each company is different, and the job position at one company may require way more or way less energy from you compared to the “same” position at another place.
