#OSCares started as a way for employees to give back together in a way that would benefit our local community and we couldn’t miss out on one of our favorite days of the year. In fact it might even be like the holy grail of volunteering…the golden snitch…the Superbowl of all volunteer days – well you get it. You see each fall United Way of Cass-Clay coordinates the annual Day of Caring to assist senior citizens in need with volunteers for projects at their residences. Volunteer tasks can include yard work, raking, cleaning gutters, vacuuming, dusting, etc. What’s our favorite task? Well, helping put smiles on the faces of the senior citizens who always want to learn a little more about us “kids” and often greet us with fresh baked goods at the door.
A Tale of Two Neighbors
Office Sign Company had a team of 20 volunteers go out in four different teams. One team got lucky and had the opportunity to assist two senior citizens who happened to be neighbors. The first residence was home to a lovely young woman who had just turned 90 years young. She seemed surprised to see us, the North Dakota weather was anything but kind during our volunteering efforts. She needed a bit of help with her gutters – so we grabbed a ladder to get to work. Once finished we walked down the block to meet a young lady who was just about to celebrate her 90th birthday (yes they are attending each other’s parties too). She was originally from England but fell in love with an American soldier from WWII. While vacuuming, dusting and helping clean her house we learned more about her and she made sure to ask us all about our signs!
Cleaning for a Couple
Now our CEO is not your average guy, he makes sure to surprise us with a variety of morale boosting activities and is sure to volunteer with us whenever he can. His team got the opportunity to help a couple, Ester and Victor. Their home needed a good cleaning and we had just the crew for the task! From moving ovens to cleaning floors we are always happy to do good things for good people. Ester and Victor are frequent recipients of volunteers from Office Sign Company and are always appreciative of our help!
Live United Shirts
Office Sign Company’s sister company, Fargo Stuff, partnered with the United Way to bring consistent branding throughout the event. Whether it was the original Live United shirt or a customized option for the many company teams that went out to volunteer – we were happy to hand produce each one. That’s right we hand press each t-shirt with care with a portion of the proceeds invested back into the local community to achieve United Way of Cass-Clay’s BOLD Community Goals to Reduce Hunger and Homelessness, Prepare Children to Succeed, Help People Be Independent and Lift People Out of Poverty.
Our team makes sure to enjoy every moment of being together no matter if we are making signs, writing blogs, hosting a potluck or volunteering. There’s so much more to business and work than just meeting profit margins. Are you looking for a new sign? Maybe a new career? Or a nonprofit partnership? Be sure to reach out to Office Sign Company and we will be happy to assist! We can’t promise we will have baked goods at the door – none as good as Ester’s anyways. We hope to hear from you soon!
