“An actual cup of coffee.”
That’s exactly what the folks at c2renew have created, a travel coffee mug made out of all natural recycled coffee waste. Coffee inception, am I right? Leo would be proud.
c2renew, a local research based company right here in Fargo, ND, is staying true to their name – using renewable resources like bio-based byproducts such as sunflower hulls, beet pulp and flax shive to name a few, to create custom biocomposites. To learn more, I got to head over to The Incubator, or as it is otherwise known, NDSU’s Research Circle, to sit down with one of the partners at c2renew. Corey, the CEO a explained the process behind their products.
While most of the words went right over my head, what’s the jist of the process? It’s incredibly cool. This technology allows c2renew to take products that would otherwise be considered waste and reuse them to improve the quality and sustainability of plastic. I know, I know, my mind was blown too. In actuality, the business idea is straightforward, and as Corey put it, that’s the way they like to keep things.
In addition to being environmentally responsible, c2renew is in turn benefitting North Dakota and the surrounding region. Not only do they provide low cost materials to regional business, they also purchase their by-products from regional processors. I think it was most poignantly put by DJ Khaled, when he stated, “All they do is win.” Or something like that.
Office Sign Company is proud to sell the c2cup!
We at Office Sign Company got to jump in on one of their most recent products, the c2cup. The idea for this cup came to Corey as he was driving home. As Corey explained, this cup was the perfect way to show exactly what c2renew is about in a tangible way, as their cup exemplifies the company’s mission to create products responsibly and efficiently.
To create this cup they process coffee waste and then combine it with resin to create the biocomposite material they use for the mugs! Instead of coffee waste sitting in the garbage, they’re being utilized for another purpose as a filler instead of petroleum feedstock for a greener alternative.
While the production process for these mugs is much more intricate, the take away is pretty simple: let’s reuse products we would otherwise throw away, and create something more efficient in the process. In addition to that, I’d venture to say it’s a pretty great conversation starter.
We have the opportunity to use our own capacities like laser engraving to take these mugs to the next level! You can purchase these mugs just as they are for $15, or customize them for $20. Just send us the artwork of your own custom design or logo, and we’ll get started. These make perfect personalized gifts for your friends, coworkers, or employees, or a new way to drink your own morning (or afternoon, who I am kidding) caffeine fix. We can laser engrave your artwork on the mug – so you can drink an actual cup of coffee that’s all yours 🙂
