Reclaimed wood is officially having a moment. And ya know what? Hats off to Chip and Joanna Gaines for making something that would’ve (no pun intended) once gone to the landfill something that is now seen in practically every other home on the block. Whether it’s on the latest episode of Fixer Upper, the walls at your favorite coffee shop (#shiplap anyone?) or the signs around your local brewery, reclaimed wood is everywhere. This is definitely one trend we hope sticks around…..
For today’s blog, we wanted to take a closer look at using reclaimed wood as a substrate for signs. We’ll give you the details on what reclaimed wood really is, why we love it and how it can be used for your next project.
What is reclaimed wood? Though Chip and Joanna Gaines are certainly to blame for the sudden rise in popularity of reclaimed wood, they certainly didn’t invent the idea (no hard feelings Jo-Jo….) Simply put, reclaimed wood is wood that was originally used for a different purpose. For example, most reclaimed wood is retrieved from old barns, factories or warehouses and then used as home decor or used as siding, flooring or cabinetry.
Here at OSC, we use reclaimed wood for custom signs and other custom projects.
Why choose reclaimed wood? We love reclaimed wood for a lot of different reasons…
- It’s environmentally friendly. Salvaging wood that would have otherwise been considered waste? Yes, please.
- It’s oftentimes more affordable. This will depend largely on the specific type of wood, but more often than not, salvaged and reclaimed wood is offered at a lower price.
- It’s unique! We love reclaimed wood for its unique characteristics, its rugged appearance, and its rustic nature.
So, have we convinced you yet? Customize your own reclaimed wood sign with your logo, artwork, or any text you send us at no additional charge….seriously. And, a variety of standard sizes are available. So what are you waiting for? Give us a call so we can get started creating an aged, rustic sign for your business or home!
