When you enter the doors of Office Sign Company you might notice some bobble heads & no we aren’t talking about those little figurines that were popular in the mid 1900s… The OSC team consistently wins awards for positive workplace culture and sure some of it has to do with the fun culture committee we have with our events including spikeball tournaments, Hawaiian potlucks (to forget we live in ND), weekly movie groups & more. However, quite a bit of it comes from the flexibility to work in what we want, sitting on what we want…including exercise balls!
Inflated Pockets of Productivity
Imagine you are the CEO running on tight deadlines with budget meetings looming around every corner. You’ve got everything riding on the line and the last thing you need is some giant bouncy ball distracting the very people you need bringing in the bacon. Now think of the valued employee you lost, the one you trained at your very desk for months who was finally making major strides for your company in the sales force and was more importantly a colleague that many new employees looked up to in the office. This employee left for a workplace environment that allowed for brief minutes of distraction and joy from a bouncy ball. Why? Well because after those five minutes of distraction there were hours worth of productivity accompanied by employee satisfaction.
“Make friends first, make sales second” – Michael Scott
Need more benefits than employee satisfaction? Or thinking of joining our fellow bobble heads with your own pocket of air? There’s even more to love about working on exercise balls!
- You can burn extra calories! Think about it…in a traditional chair you make cross your legs and move very little (we all ignore those smartwatch notifications to walk around, let’s be honest). Now imagine sitting on your own exercise ball in a color that matches the pot you picked out to be just right for your desk. Now you are bouncing out of joy, moving around and burning calories
- The almost miracle ball: Now we have to admit the stability ball isn’t going to replace your post desk job workout; however, with regular exercise and stretching on the stability ball you can relieve some of the stress on your back!
- Guess what exercise balls don’t have? Backs! This means that your core muscles will be more engaged! Want to go above and beyond? Try a couple of exercises during your breaks like: planking, ball squats & shoulder curls.
You may want to sit down for this one
Here’s the truth. Sitting for eight hours isn’t good for your employee’s health nor is it good for the health of your company. Exercise balls may improve the mood, your overall team morale and provide bits of joy throughout the office. However, we encourage you to think of other ways to get your employees up and moving. From the occasional pot luck to the paid afternoon off playing yard games; minutes invested into your staff will help your overall company culture leading to less dread over budget meetings. Heck even add some bobble heads to the office every once and awhile, who knows who will smile because of it.
