“Alzheimer’s is near and dear to me. Members of my family have battled this disease, so the opportunity to give back to an organization that is combating such a life altering disease—It brings a smile to my face.”

Alzheimer’s Awareness + Office Sign Company
The month of June is draped in the color purple, dedicated to Alzheimer’s Awareness. Alzheimer’s, at present, isn’t a curable disease. With this, one of the most crucial factors is early detection, as this paves the way for beneficial treatment. Early detection is possible only through increased awareness of the disease and the leading symptoms. In the hope of increasing awareness, we are partnering with the Minnesota-North Dakota chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association in our #KnowTheSigns campaign.
Alzheimer’s impacts the lives of so many, extensively affecting families and friends along the way, including those at Office SignCompany. Our hope is to give back what we can through our time and resources to add to the steady progress toward a cure. As a sign company, this allows us the unique opportunity to combine our love of design with important advocacy, helping those we love the most and many more.
Our #KnowTheSigns campaign centers around the 10 leading signs of Alzheimer’s disease. Knowing these signs enables you to not only recognize the disease but additionally better ensure that you and your loved ones receive the treatment that can make all the difference.
The 10 signs of Alzheimer’s:1.Memory changes that disrupt daily life
2.Challenges in planning or solving problems
3.Difficulty completing familiar tasks
4.Confusion with time or place
5.Trouble understanding visual images and spatial relationships
6.New problems with words in speaking or writing
7.Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps
8.Decreased or poor judgment
9.Withdrawal from work or social activities
10.Changes in mood and personalityOne of our most fortunate resources is our talented staff. For the entire month of June, we are selling speciality custom awareness mugs, designed and produced by our team. The mugs feature two designs, including our Brain Matters and Know the Signs mugs. The cost of the mug is $12, and forevery purchase, $2 is directly donated to the Minnesota-North Dakota chapter ofthe Alzheimer’s Association.
June 21st is a day to mark on your calendar for several reasons. The Alzheimer’s Association’s #LongestDay event will take place on this day, and to play our part, we will be donating 10% of our salesthat day to the Alzheimer’s Association. If you’re ready for some change and you want to renew that old sign you’ve been meaning to replace for years, June 21st is the day to do it. In addition to getting some pretty cool signage this is a chance to enact some serious change.
As a progressive brain disorder, Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia. Alzheimer’s is not a natural succession in the process of growing older. However, one of the most pertinent risk factors is increasing age. The Alzheimer’s Association offers, “After age 65, the risk of Alzheimer’s doubles every five years. After age 85, the risk reaches nearly 50 percent.” This disease poses a significant threat.
How do we combat this risk? Research is paving the path to both a more comprehensive understanding of Alzheimer’s, as well as advanced treatment options. The Alzheimer’s Association states that 90% of what is known about Alzheimer’s has been discovered through research conducted in the last 15 years. Monumental progress is happening as you read this, but critical research cannot occur without funding resources.
Dig out the purple in your closet and wear it proudly this month. #KnowTheSigns and then tell your family, your friends, your coworkers, your neighbor to do the same. If you are experiencing this battle firsthand, know that you are not alone.
